Dan Burstein describes blown glass as a "totally visceral, immediate experience" that makes him feel completely alive and in the moment. He got his start in stained glass and blown glass in 2000 at Bucks County Community College in Newtown, PA. He has taken classes at many east coast glass studios and at the Corning Museum of Glass with the Muranese Maestro Davide Salvadore, Janusz Pozniak and John Miller.
Dan experiments with creating diverse sculptural and functional forms out of glass using intricate murrini, an Italian term for colored patterns or images made in a glass cane that are revealed when cut in cross sections. This technique allows him to explore surface dimensions and lends an organic feel to his pieces.
Dan's love of nature has inspired two of his blown glass series: Landscape, where he layers the colors of the earth and sky in organic, painterly compositions; and Ocean Waves, where he has depicts the simultaneous calmness and turbulence of the water's movement.
